IOS 14 Facebook Update - How does it affect you & your business?

ios14 update Feb 03, 2021
As you’ve probably already noticed Facebook has released a (pretty vague!) statement about iOS 14 impact on Fb pixel. Do you have to worry about it at this stage? If you’re running lead gen ads a quick answer is - no. But there are a few things you have to be aware of:
  1. You must ensure you have a privacy policy page set up on your website and linked to your lead form. We’ve always emphasised this one but now it’s more important than ever.
  2. Going forward, apps will be required to get permission from users to track them or access their device’s advertising identifier. This may result in more people NOT giving Fb a permission to track their data which will impact Fb ads optimisation, targeting and tracking (across IOS mobile web ONLY).

  3. So, nothing changes for you, it is just there probably be LESS data available to Facebook. Remember that this is mobile only. If a user visits your website directly via desktop or clicks a link from desktop on Facebook that drives to your website, the Facebook pixel should be functional. (*The Facebook pixel helps advertisers track events that occur on their website and reach people who performed those events with ads.)

Now, if you’re running conversion ads there are a few more things you have to do:
  1. You now have to verify your business domain. How to do it?
Head to: Business manager - Business settings - Brand safety - Domains - Add a new domain- Follow the steps to ‘verify your domain’
Watch a video on how to do it here: https://developers.facebook.com/.../domain-verification.

    2. Advertisers will be limited to EIGHT conversion events per domain — including pixel events AND custom conversions. Currently, no such limit exists.

Facebook has not provided very clear information on this one at this stage. We’ll get back to you with a more accurate update as soon as it’s available.
But if you’re running conversion ads you’ve probably already received an automated message in your ads manager to visit your resource centre and review your conversion events. So you can head there and review the tasks Fb has already listed for you.

That is it at this stage. We’ll update you as soon as more specific information is released. But for now, make sure you have reviewed the steps above and comment any questions below, we'll get back to you asap!
